Hello, sorry for writing in English, I hope that i allowed in here! Please feel free to reply in French, I will use Google Translate.
I wanted to ask about Aureal3D used in Thief 1 and Thief 2. For those who did not know: it is an alternative audio processing method to EAX. Some say it is better than EAX. You can some history about it from year 2000 here:
http://ttlg.com/FORUMS/showthread.php?t=37382or newer discussion with instructions on making A3D work (but with no indication that it is working...)
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.p ... ght=aurealSo I'm writing here in hopes to share information about this Aureal3d.
How do you run it? The most common method I know is to go here
http://www.worknd.ru/ and download the first one. a3d-live.exe. Then install it. Then launch game, go to Sound, make it OpenAL acceleration but EAX OFF. Then it sounds much differently from EAX but still with very nice reverbs and better positional audio. Does anyone here know any better methods to enable A3d in Thief games? Do you know any way to KNOW it works other than listening? As far as I know there's no button or any other place where you can read for sure that it is working in your game? Do people in this forum consider A3D superior to EAX? Do you know any other ways to enhance audio in Thief games? Do you use Dolby aftereffects? Do you upmix your 2.0 or 2.1 speakers to 5.1 ? Does it have any positive effects? Thanks for any insight into making audio sound better on Thief!
A little demo, though I think it sounds better in game:
